Horizon breaks ground on Memorial Woods
On Wednesday, November 10, Horizon Home Care & Hospice broke ground on its new Memorial Woods on the campus of Kathy Hospice in West Bend.
The Memorial Woods is a way for families to commemorate their loved ones. Families and friends may purchase a tree and accompanying personalized plaque in their honor.
At the official groundbreaking on Wednesday, family, friends and Horizon staff gathered to plant the first five trees of the Memorial Woods. The emotional event drove some to tears.
“We’re extremely happy to provide this kind of opportunity for people to honor those they’ve lost,” says Horizon CEO Mary Haynor. “It’s beautiful and unique to be able to memorialize someone with an actual living tribute—a tree that will stand the test of time. It reminds us all that our loved ones never really leave us.”
There are several varieties of tree to choose from, including red oak, sugar maple, weeping willow and white pine. The Memorial Woods is not exclusively for those who have stayed at Kathy Hospice – a tree may be purchased for any loved one.
