Some patients prefer the comfort of knowing that professionals are with them 24/7. For these patients a hospice care facility is a desirable choice.  For others, assistance is required around-the-clock with a team of professionals on-hand, suggesting an inpatient setting is a more favorable option.

Horizon has built an inpatient setting for hospice in conjunction with Columbia St. Mary’s.

The beautiful Unit was made possible by the Lawlis Family in memory of their parents Kirby and Mary Lawlis.

The Lawlis Family hospice was created with the comfort of the individuals and their families in mind.

The Lawlis Family hospice is a stunning example of our belief that every moment of life should be of the highest quality and filled with dignity.  From the expertly trained staff, to the detail of handpicked artwork, the Lawlis hospice is an oasis for patients and family alike.

The hospice is located in its own wing on the second floor of the Mequon Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital on Port Washington Road.  The parking is secure and ample and the hospice is open to family members 24 hours per day.

As you enter the hospice you will notice the use of warm color, beautiful art, and quiet ambience is similar to that of a luxurious hotel. 

The rooms are richly appointed and large.  Patients have room for family members.  Each patient has an extra, comfortable bed for an overnight guest. All patient rooms have a personal refrigerator for beverages or food brought in by family members.  Each patient has a video player for movies and a boom box for music.

Patient rooms have guest tables, chairs, laptop tables, ambient lighting, and space for family to gather making visits comfortable.

The hospice has a family shower for families and overnight guests to freshen up, a much appreciated feature.

The hospice has multiple lounges for individual conversations and small group gatherings.  A kitchen and dining area is also available to patients and family.

The hospice has an outside balcony overlooking the Columbia St. Mary’s wetlands, allowing hospice patients and family to step outside while still being close to the hospice staff.
